Mossfire shivered as he sat outside the warrior's den. The sun was just beginning to come up on the horizon and it had been a long, cold night. It was his first night as a warrior, and he couldn't wait for someone to wake up and end his vigil. He wanted to go into the den and sleep untill sunhigh, but no one else had been out of the dens since midnight. He wished it was one of his clanmates that was out here on guard and that he was all cozy inside of the warriors den.
"Where in Starclan's name is everyone? I'm cold!", he thought. Only then did he hear someone leave the warriors den behind him. He turned around too look......

...at Wolfclaw, padding drowsily out of the den. He thought, I remember when I had to do my vigil. Lucky enough for me it wasn't during leaf-bare like his is. He walked over and told Mossfire,"I'll take over guarding the camp. You can go hunt, or sleep. That's what I did after my first night as a warrior. Nothing short of a full out battle was going to wake me up after that night."

"Thanks, Wolfclaw. I think I'll go out and hunt for a little while, so I can stretch my legs. I really need to, after sitting all night long. Then I'll rest." Mossfire said to Wolfclaw.
As he left the Windclan camp, he felt happier then he had in a long time. This was his first hunt as a warrior! What could go wrong?

Wolfclaw looked anxiously out at the plains. Mossfire should have returned by now. I would go out and look for him, but nobody else is up to watch the camp if I left, so if he has gotten into trouble, I hope he is able to get himself out of it. Wolfclaw thought helplessly to himself.

Mossfire was shivering hard when he entered the Windclan camp. He was still covered in ice and felt like he was going to fall apart. His nose was running and he could guess that he was coming down with a cold. He looked up to see Wolfclaw still guarding the camp, and no one else was up yet. "Good," he thought, "no one else would have missed me." He went up to Wolfclaw and said, "Sorry I took so long. I ran into some trouble while out hunting, and....... It's a long story. But I'll be fine."

Wolfclaw looked over Mossfire, wondering how he got covered in ice, and noted the signs of a cold. "As much as I would like to hear your excuse for this, now's not the time for that. Go see the medicine cat and get yourself looked over. He's the one to do that kind of thing, not me. After that we'll talk," Wolfclaw told Mossfire.

"R-R-Right" He was shivering uncontrolably, and his teeth were chattering. He just hoped it was a cold and not something else that was worse. "Thanks for not asking. I d-don't think I can really explain it r-right now. I st-still need some time to think about it." He headed off towards the medicince cat's den.

After a while he returned to Wolfclaw. "Grayfoot says I'll be okay. He said that I don't really have a cold and that all the symptoms are just from falling in the river, which I guess leads me to explaining what happened."
"I was out hunting near the gorge when I came across two hungry foxes. They attacked me, and having served vigil last night, I was too tired to fight back. So I ran into Riverclan territory and jumped into the gorge to try and lose them. A Riverclan cat named Shadowfang pulled me out of the water and fought them off after they followed me downstream. I was out cold for a little while so thats why it took so long. I talked with Shadowfang for a few minutes and then came back here."

"Well, you had the right idea to try and escape the foxes, but jumping into the gorge was a very mousebrained idea, especially now during leaf-bare. You're just lucky that Shadowfang was able to help you, and willing to. I want you to stay away from that area for a while until the foxes appear to have left. I'll alert the rest of the clan to be on the lookout for those foxes in that area. For now, you should get cleaned up and then go rest for a while," Wolfclaw said.

"Sorry. Now that I think about it, jumping into the gorge was the worst thing I could have done. But at the time it seemed like the only way to escape the foxes. I was too tired to run for much longer," Mossfire told Wolfclaw. "I don't think I'll be hunting over there for a long time. I'm going to go sleep for a while. Wake me up if something happens, okay?"

Mossfire peeked carefully out of the den, looking to make sure no one was watching him. Once he was sure the path was clear, he left the den and then left the camp. He had been unable to sleep after his near drowning earlier in the day, and he wanted to get out and soak up the warmth from the sun. He walked quickly towards the fourtrees, stopping only once to make sure nobody was following him.

Wolfclaw settled back down. "Thank Starclan he's all right. I doubt he'll be doing anything like that anytime soon. Suddenly, Wolfclaw caught a snatch of fox scent. It must be those foxes that chased Mossfire earlier! He would probably be able to tell if it was the same ones or not. Wolfclaw thought to himself. Wolfclaw raced over to the warrior den, and noticed that Mossfire wasn't there. "Where has he gotten off to now? Everyone is off doing border patrol and hunting. Guess I'm going to have to fight them myself. Racing out of the camp, Wolclaw rushes off, following the scent of the foxes to get them out of WindClan territory once and for all.
